Both boys competed in a show this weekend where they raked in the rosettes with their ever smiling Mia. Congratulations Mia, Tanunga and Dothraki! We are so proud of you ❤️❤️❤️

African Wild Dogs are the largest canids in Africa African Wild Dogs are the largest canids in Africa and the second largest in the world after wolves. Years ago, at least 500,000 painted dogs roamed the African continent’s wild lands, but now, approximately 6,600 wild dogs are left in the wild.  These endangered species are listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. At the African Wildlife Foundation, we value the vital work being done by individuals and organizations dedicated to the protection of wild dogs amid threats such as poaching and habitat loss.

Meet Komatsu & Kujwana 🖤🤍 Komatsu and Kujwa Meet Komatsu & Kujwana 🖤🤍 Komatsu and Kujwana are 2 of our homebreds and are full brothers. Komatsu (left) was born in Guma, near the panhandle, in the delta. He is a robust and wonderful safari horse. He is named after our TBL digger. Kujwana (right) is named after our base camp - which means “baby hippo” in Setswana. He is bold and very comfortable. You can always find them together at grazing and look so similar that they could almost be twins 🖤🤍

He has been successfully backing up a number of guest rides and couldn’t be going better! How gorgeous does he look in comparison to when he was first rescued in Maun! 💛
Happy World Elephant Day 🐘 #didyouknow The Ok Happy World Elephant Day 🐘 #didyouknow The Okavango Delta would not exist as we know it without the help of keystone species which help to mould habitats in and around the Delta. Elephant are regarded as integral engineers in creating and preserving the ecosystems of the Okavango Delta. These giants fashion channels through the water easing the flow of the water further into the Okavango. Their movements alter the direction of the water and the speed of the flow. On land, they break and knock down trees clearing dense forested areas too.
Happy World Lion Day! Throughout history, lions h Happy World Lion Day! Throughout history, lions have been admired as a symbol of power, strength, and courage. Previously, lions roamed throughout all of Africa and parts of Asia and Europe. However, this mighty species is now found only in fragments of sub-Saharan Africa, along with a critically endangered subpopulation in West Africa and a small population of Asiatic lions in India’s Gir National Park. The vast majority of lions live south of the Sahara. Since lions are extremely adaptable big cats, they can survive in a wide variety of habitats, including dry forests, thick bush, floodplains, and semi-arid desert areas. However, they typically prefer open savannas where it is easier to stalk their prey. #Didyouknow that the Lions of the Okavango Delta have adapted to their wetland habitat and often take to the water in pursuit of their prey? Compared to other big cat species, lions are the most sociable. They live in groups called prides. #Didyouknow A lion’s roar can be heard from five miles away and is also a show of power between males. Within their pride, female lions act as the primary hunters and work in teams to prey on zebras, wildebeests, antelope, and other large herbivores. Lions sleep up to 20 hours a day, so most of their hunting is done at night or early in the morning. This is because their eyes easily adapt to the dark, and it is easier to sneak up on prey at night. The IUCN estimates that between 23,000 to 39,000 lions remain in the wild. However, other data from recent years suggests that that number may be closer to 20,000, as three-quarters of their population is in decline. Although lions are not currently endangered, population numbers will continue to decrease without proper conservation efforts.
The Okavango Delta is known for its sprawling gras The Okavango Delta is known for its sprawling grassy plains, which flood seasonally, becoming a lush animal habitat. Here at OHS, we navigate the delta on horseback throughout the year, riding alongside journeys of giraffe, dazzles of Zebra and parades of Elephant. Our Dugout canoes, also known as Mokoros, are used to navigate past hippos and crocodiles in the delta’s different channels. And our afternoon game drives are where one can get up close and personal with all the big cats that the delta has to offer. Something new and exciting awaits around each corner.
